SPENCER (Camp Site Warden)

Spencer is the Warden of the Camp site he started in May 2011.

Spencer started the Explorer Unit at the 34th Reigate (Meadvale) in 2003 and left in late 2014. Previously he was Scout Leader at the 34th for the previous twelve years. Before that he was Assistant Scout leader and before that he was a Helper and a Skills Instructor in Scouts. He also helped at Beavers for three years. Spencer has also been the groups Group Scout leader four times, also holding the position of District Commissioner for Scouts for Reigate in the past. He is the longest serving member in history with the group with thirty six years under his belt. 

He started his Scouting career in the 14th Reigate Dovers Green Cubs being seconder and then a sixer before becoming a Scout at the 34th in 1977. He was made Assistant Patrol Leader then Patrol Leader and then Senior Patrol Leader. He won the Wheel of Progress best Scout in 1980 (2009 saw his son Tristan win it the first time ever a father and son have won the award) In 2012 younger son Aaron followed it by winning it. As a Leader he has received his long Service Award for 15 and 25 years (in 2008) and his Medal of Merit in 1999. Qualified First Aider for 35 years. He has Leaders Wood Beads in Scouts and Explorers .Has has gained several certificates in Child protection and NSPCC Fullstop. Has also completed a full NVQ in leadership through Scouting. He is also an advanced mini Bus Driver. In October 2011 Spence was awarded the Mayor's Volunteer Award Reigate & Banstead 2011 Highly Commends for his dedication and commitment to voluntary service in the Local Community by the mayor of Reigate and Banstead.

In April 2012 Spence was awarded the Silver Acorn for specially distinguished services to Scouting. He is also a Nights away advisor for Reigate District. Also in April Spence became a qualified GNAS archery instructor.He now Leads archery sessions at Jordan Heights. In February 2013 Spence became an National Small Bore Rifle Association Tutor and range marshal and now leads Rifle shooting at Jordan Heights. In May 2014 he became a District Nights Away adviser. In July 2014 Spence was awarded the Jack Harwood Award for all his hard work with the Camp site. In 2015 Spence also became a County Assessor for Archery.November 2016 saw Spence train as a Axe Thrower as well and now teaches that at the site.

ASSISTANT WARDEN (Andy Wyeth) ( Started September 2018)

We have some very exciting news we have a new Assistant Warden for the camp site after almost 9 months of trying to keep the site running. Andy Wyeth who signed up at the recent Open Day.A little bit about Andy, Andy was one of mine and Angela's Scouts at the 34th back in the late 1990’s. He was the First Explorer enrolled into our Unit when it started in January 2003. He became a Queen Scout (along side a certain Stuart Davis!) and then went on to help me as a Unit Assistant for two years at Explorers from 2005-2007. Andy is seen here ready for Action!  Welcome Andy Wyeth


ANGELA HARRIS (Booking Secretary) 

Started as secretary in October 2011

Started in the 34th Reigate (Meadvale) on the admin side before moving to Beavers as an helper in Beavers before coming Assistant Beaver Leader and then Beaver Leader. Was also District Beaver leader in Reigate. Then started helping Spence at Scouts as Assistant Scout Leader in 1999. Became Scout Leader when Explorers started and Spence left the role of Scout Leader. Qualified First Aider. Has gained Wood beads in Beavers and Scouts. Gained her 15 year award long service in 2010. Gained her Medal of Merit in 2011. Angela has now moved on from the group to take up two District roles. District Scout Leader and Leader trainer, in March 2012 Angela became Assistant District Commissioner for Scouts. Angela has now stepped back from those roles September 2017 but continues at the Booking Secretary for the Camp site.

A long time serving Scouter in Reigate with the 5th Reigate and was on the Executive Committee of Reigate District for many years.Was awarded his Medal of Merit in June 2012.

Started just as the camp site was forced to close but has been working behind the scene. 

Assistant Helper Aaron was a member of the 34th Reigate (Meadvale) Explorer unit. He has been a Beaver, Cub, Scout and now an Explorer. He completed his Chief Scout Gold Award in 2011 in Scouts and his Chief Scout Platinum Award in 2012, and Chief Scout Diamond Award in 2013 in Explorers In 2014 he gained his Queen Scout Award the highest in Scouting.Helps lead the archery and rifle sessions at Jordan Heights.For helping at Jordan Heights and all the extra work he has done Aaron won the 34th Reigate (Meadvale) Explorers Wheel of Progress 2012 and the Adrian King Memorial Award 2012. In 2013 Aaron won the Reigate District helping hand award for outstanding services to Scouting under 18 at the Reigate District AGM a fitting award for all his hard work at the site. In 2014 he was a member of the team that won the District Explorer Shooting competition at Jordan Heights. He also became the top shooter in District and brook the record for Jordan Heights with his shooting.Was Assistant Warden for five years ,now at University so not available as much at the moment.

Service Team

Peter and Oriel Mitchell who have many years experience in Scouting (over a 100 between them) at the 14th Reigate Scouts and Cubs and the 34th Reigate (Meadvale) Cubs , Scouts and Explorers. Peter was also Camp site Warden of Reigate's previous site,the Fort at the top of Reigate Hill for many years.
